Take the third step to a better world

An Earth Day editorial in the Norwell Mariner says we should all take action on global warming.

Step one is awareness.
Earth Day, first celebrated in 1970, has certainly gone a long way in bringing environmental concerns to the mainstream. As we get ready to celebrate another Earth Day on Tuesday, April 22, people are certainly aware of some of the basic things that need to be done to protect the environment, such as cutting down on pollution, recycling and reducing trash, and conserving energy and water. In recent years, the “green” movement has focused more and more on the Earth’s climate and the phenomenon known as Global Warming.

The second step is understanding. Knowing the issues is one thing. Understanding the cause and effect and the science behind it is becoming increasingly important as we try to wrap our arms around such a big issue.

And that leads to the final step — action.
