Wind activists target Markey
Activists rallied at the Medford office of US Rep Edward J. Markey, delivering 8,000 postcards from Cape Wind supporters and urging him to take a stance.
Activists from U.S. Representative Edward Markey's legislative district and several organizations promoting clean power rallied in Medford Square on Wednesday, March 6, to ask for his support on the Cape Wind project. Residents gathered from Medford, Lexington, Waltham, Watertown, Winchester, and other towns in the 7th Legislative District, as well as staff and volunteers from Clean Power Now, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local #103, and the Massachusetts Climate Action Network. Markey staffer Mark Gallagher issued a statement from the Representative later in the date. It says:
“I believe that wind energy is one of this century’s most promising sources of clean, climate-friendly electricity in the United States both on land and offshore. I have worked to support wind power in Congress for years – in fact this morning I chaired a hearing on the economic and job creation potential of wind and other renewable energies.
“Cape Wind has the potential to bring wind energy to Massachusetts, as long as it, like all other energy development projects, meets the environmental review required by the National Environmental Policy Act. That review should proceed with no short-cuts and no delays. My position is clear: as long as Cape Wind passes the environmental review, I’m in favor of this project.”
