Governor's 'State of State' Address
In January Governor Deval Patrick made the annual 'State of the State' Speech, in which he briefly addressed climate change concerns. Short excerpts from the Governor's January address mentioning climate issues follow:
"We joined the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, and launched new biofuels and green building standards. We won the national wind blade test facility, and supported Cape Wind and other clean power projects. As a result, the clean technology sector has become one of the strongest growth industries in the Commonwealth and one of the most promising in the world. . . . Let's start promoting efficiency, renewables, cheaper electricity, and new jobs in a hot new growth sector by passing the Energy Bill. . . . . When high tech and clean energy firms leave, or gaming firms shun this market, because we are unwilling to play to our strengths and address barriers to growth, they take thousands of jobs and millions of dollars of investment elsewhere. The cost of inaction is too high."
